Bioenvision Technology join MobilityXlab to collaborate with leaders in the mobility industry!

– We are thrilled to announce that Bioenvision Technology are nominated and will join this years MobilityXlab! This means that we will work with some of the leaders in the automotive market worldwide!

The future of transportation and mobility needs to be climate-neutral, safe and connected. To help reach these goals faster, five startups were invited to join MobilityXlab, the platform to promote collaboration between emerging companies and mobility leaders CEVT, Ericsson, Polestar, Veoneer, Volvo Cars, Volvo Group and Zenseact.

Bioenvision Technology join MobilityXlab and the startups joining the 11th batch of MobilityXlab are: Actasys (United States), Bioenvision (Norway), Entroview (France), Fever Energy (Sweden), and Provizio (Ireland). They will now participate in the program for at least six months to co-create solutions in technologies ranging from energy grid flexibility for electric vehicles to bio-based materials.

By joining the program, the startups get access to an important mobility cluster in Gothenburg, Sweden. To Nils Mösko, Chairperson at MobilityXlab and Head of Strategy and Business Development at Polestar, that is one of the main benefits of the program. He says: “West Sweden, especially Gothenburg, is such an exciting region for mobility and tech development. There is a lot of potential in tech development right now and in the future, and it is great to be able to gather startups and the industry here.”

To be invited into the program, a startup needs to be selected by at least two of its industry partners. This reinforces knowledge sharing and increases the outcomes for Proof of Concept (PoC) and validation projects. Barry Lunn, CEO and co-founder of the startup Provizio, highlights the benefits of being able to validate their technology in MobilityXlab. He says: “The focus that MobilityXlab has on validation projects is what attracted us. It is extremely valuable for a startup to work together with industry experts and get a deep understanding of what is their real-life application for our products.”

Provizio produces a system that fuses their proprietary imaging radars with lidar, and camera imaging to expand the vehicle’s perception of the traffic conditions or obstacles. This can improve the deployment of autonomous vehicles and increase their safety, contributing to the Vision Zero goal of no fatalities or serious injuries through road accidents.

MobilityXlab was founded in 2017 with the mission to accelerate global innovation based on the Swedish collaboration culture. And after five years and 18 accelerations through commercial contracts or partnerships, the formula has proved to be a success. Katarina Brud, director at MobilityXlab says: “Our core differential is structured collaboration, and to achieve that we involve the partners in all steps of the program. This coordination and deep involvement are what allows the collaboration to successfully happen between the startups and our partners, but also among the partners themselves.”

“We have reached almost 100 validation projects in the program, which attests that startupcorporate collaboration is very efficient to attract talent, enhance the innovation ecosystem, and strengthen the Swedish lead in the mobility sector,” she concludes.

The selection process for MobilityXlab takes place twice a year and the next application period opens in August 2023.

Bioenvision present on the PPT Conference in India

-16th of December the Plastics & Polymers Technology Conference – Emerging opportunities of the future took place in India where we focused on our sustainable and green flame retardant solution D-PYRE® for better health and environment.

We brought insight about our green high-tech POSS additives in the fire-retardant market in India in several material areas.

Darya Zeine, R & D Manager

India market

The conference brought together participants from all over India including multinational companies as well as Tech Institutes. It facilitated the initiative of bringing together competence from the Industrial segment, researchers, experts, end-users, technology providers, government bodies, stakeholders, waste recyclers, chemical recyclers of plastics, retailers, and local authorities under one roof to discuss challenges, efficient solutions and presented the latest technology and developments to solve plastics & polymers usage limitations.

Green flame retardants
Bioenvision were present with Darya Zeini, Priti M, from our agent in India TheKVM and Espen Solberg. Darya, one of the conference speakers, presented Bioenvision’s recent R&D developments for POSS FR synergists (polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane). These are used as synergists (at < 1% loading) to improve char quality (silicon ceramification), accelerate char formation, and increase ignition time. The organic group on POSS enables tailoring for specific polymer, either as reactive or additive. In addition to demonstrated use in Polyurethane foams and thermoplastics (such as polypropylene and PVC), recent trials have shown effectiveness in adhesives. More tests are also in progress together with a PhD student from Czech Republic to investigate the efficiency in epoxy resins.

High-tech POSS additives
We work to bring insight about our high-tech POSS additives into the global fire-retardant market in several material areas. Together with our partners, we are on our way to replace hazardous and environmentally harmful chemicals with green and sustainable flame retardant solutions to protect life of young and old, properties and environment. In the PPI Conference new results in PU and PP, as well as the influence of the POSS additives in adhesives were well received. Targeting the global and Indian market of flame retardants and the goal of non-toxicity in the fire retardant-segment is an important element in order to contribute to a more healthier world. We find flame retardants all around us, in for example furnitures, cars, cables and construction materials. The purpose of flame retardants are imperative, but it must be linked with non-toxic raw materials and an increase propability to reuse producst.

The material technology companies Funzionano and Inhibio are merging under the holding company Bioenvision AS to position themselves for global commercialization and growth.

Bioenvision is the result of Funzionano and Inhibio’s innovations coming together. Behind the merger are the owners Investinor, Sintef Venture and Norsk Innovasjonskapital (NIK), which also provide the company with fresh capital. Additional capital raising is planned.

We combine Funzionano and Inhibio to create a growth company for green chemical products

Erik Wold, Investment Manager at Investinor

While Funzionano develops environmentally friendly flame retardants, Inhibio develops technology that prevents growth in the marine environment. Although the technologies and areas of use are different, the companies have several common features. Both are research-driven technology companies with a strong focus on sustainability in so-called “deep-tech”, a collective term for companies with particularly advanced technology development.

– Bioenvision has a wide and attractive product range in the markets for flame retardant, water-repellent, barrier and anti-fouling products. The company has experts in both chemistry and biology. Bioenvision has its own laboratory and advanced lab equipment for product development and testing from idea to market, says Rune Sørum in Norsk Innovasjonskapital.

Funzionano was established as a separate company in 2015 after more than 13 years of research and development at Sintef. The company has developed an environmentally friendly flame retardant solution, D-PYRE®, as well as environmentally friendly water-repellent additives and barrier products. More than NOK 80 million has been invested in the development of hybrid nanoparticles. The company is located on Herøya.

The biotech company Inhibio has developed an environmentally friendly solution that prevents the formation of biofilm or growth, which is a major problem in areas such as shipping, food production and aquaculture. The company is based at the Research Park in Oslo.

The goal of merging the companies is to make better use of the market potential, create a larger and integrated competence environment and a broader product range for the company based at Herøya/Porsgrunn and Oslo. Bioenvision is led by Morten Eikenes, who is currently CEO at Funzionano. The chairman of the board is Leif Svarstad.

– We are very pleased to establish Bioenvision. By joining forces, we can build something bigger together. We thank the trust of our current owners and look forward to the continuation, says Morten Eikenes, CEO at Funzionano.
